ABSTRACT
The declaration of state of emergency in Basic and Secondary Education and constitution of the Yobe State Education Appeal Fund Committee by the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni is timely. Yobe State is blessed with human resources with an estimated population of over three million people, record shows that the state has the least number of Accredited Secondary Schools that enroll candidates for Senior School certificate Examination (SSCE) in comparison with all the North-East states and a state each from the other 5 Geo-Political zones that are perceived to be on the same level with the state. There is appreciable improvement in SSCE Registration figures where the state registered average number of candidates compared to its contemporaries in the last 6 years. In this paper we tried to analyze the registration and performance of Yobe State candidates that sat for SSCE and made entry requirement into tertiary institutions of learning from 2016 to 2021 compare to North-Eastern states and some selected states in other regions of the country. We look at the major areas of concern in the state and suggest some strategic ways to improve the educational standard in the state.

ABSTRACT
The study investigated the cognitive demand of teacher-made Mathematics test in Misau Local Government, Bauchi State, Nigeria. The study adopted Causal comparative (Ex-post factor) design from total population of fifty-seven (57) Mathematics teachers consisting of 46 males and 11 females, A total of 174 sample of TMT was retrieve from teachers, and is restricted to mathematics teachers from public senior secondary schools, all the population was used for this research. The researcher developed a Test Investigation Guide (TIG) for TMT. One research question was answered and four hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05level of significant. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistic; frequency counts and percentages to answer research question, while Chi-square (cross-tabulation) was used to test the four hypotheses. The study revealed that, 56% teachers’ in Misau Local government set their test item to measure higher cognitive demand whereas about 44% of their items measures low cognition. The frequency of cognitive level of test items found on TMT between experience and in-experience teachers is retained but rejected in-relation to qualification. Lastly, there is no significant differences among teachers’ on placement of specific verbs in testing cognitive functioning of students with regard to working experience and qualification, the study recommended that teachers’ level of awareness should be raised to the level that they expand the status of their test items to measure the remaining aspect of cognition. Regular workshop and seminars on Bloom’s Taxonomy should be extended to the various levels of cognition. Teachers’ should update their status regarding verb usage on the context of the item and the complexity of the action for testing different depth-of-knowledge levels. Doing this would help teachers in the development of instructional methods that efficiently uses student’s limited cognitive processing capacity to stimulate their ability to apply acquired knowledge and skills to new situations.

ABSTRACT
Three substantial problems are visible in the teaching of citizenship education in the polytechnic. Firstly students are studying the courses only with the intention of passing their examinations and getting a diploma. Secondly the issues of ideology. It is whenever we notice the problematic that we will appreciate the ideology attractiveness of the course, which hinges on Western developmental framework. Thirdly the problem encountered by the teacher of citizenship education. He must of necessity involve his natural unavoidable alternative to writers of authority on the law, history, economics, political science, sociology and so on. He will also ascertain the frustration, which he faces as a result of the response of the students and the larger Nigerian society. Actually, education for involved democratic citizenship as an educational drive overcomes the disintegration transversal connections of the different devotions, and could become a part of citizenship consolidation. Inside this fresh interest in educating for a democratic and partaking citizenship, there has been a focus on the cure of social and environmental harms ascending from the certainty that education must be focused towards the foundation of a serious and publically involved citizenship, helping to realize social reality and its problems and to build social thinking to manage the difficulty of this reality, and encouraging participation in the formation of democracy and enlightening cohabitation.

APPLICATION OF INTERNET FACILITIES IN COVID-19 ERA AS A MEDIUM FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING AND IT’S EFFECT ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN YOBE STATE UNIVERSITY
ORISA, EVANS EJIKEME
Department of Office Technology and Management, School of Management Studies, the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, Nigeria
ABSTRACT
The application of internet facilities as a medium of teaching and learning, especially in this period of COVID-19 cannot be over emphasized. In fact, it is a common thing these days to see teachers holding and manipulating some sort of gadgets using the internet to accomplish different aspects of teaching and learning aimed at imparting knowledge in student. The internet is a powerful tool that enable users to communicate virtually and be more productive and profitable when used effectively; streamlining office work, communication among students and teachers for passing instructions are some of the benefits (Dimaggio, 2004). But for the revolution in information and communication technology that has turned the world into a global village; teaching and learning would not have been achieved without internet and its facilities, especially in the era of COVID which brought about “lock down, social distancing” etc to curtail the spread of the disease. The researcher developed some objectives which include to determine how the use of instant messaging can affect students learning process, how the use of teleconferencing by institutions of higher learning can encourage communication efficiency and effectiveness among students and teachers etc. Three research questions were also posed to guide the study. The area of study was department of accountancy, Yobe state university, Damaturu where 100 students in the department was used and there was no need for sampling since the number was manageable. The methodology used by the researcher is descriptive survey as data was gathered from respondent using questionnaires, frequency distribution table and mean score for analysis. After retrieving and analyzing 83 out of the 100 distributed to respondents, with values allocated to the 4 points Likert Scale rating of Strongly Agreed (SA) = 4, Agreed (A) = 3, Disagreed (D) = 2 and Strongly Disagreed (SD) = 1and cut-off point as 2.5. The cut-off point is got through the use of the formula.X = (EFX) = (4+3+2+1) = 10/4 = 2.5. Findings revealed that the use of internet facilities like instant messages as medium of communication enhanced teaching and learning and increased students’ performance academically during this COVID-19 period. It also showed that teleconferencing assisted teachers in passing instructions to students without having to come together physically; hence reducing the stress of travelling long distances and danger of contracting coronavirus infection. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that government at all levels (Federal, State and Local) should endeavor to encourage students and institutions by assisting them financially to enable them procure the necessary internet gadgets and devices for instructional purposes. The management of the institution should as a matter of necessity, ensure the provision of internet connectivity to all the nooks and crannies of the university for effective teaching and learning.

This research paper aimed to study the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the educational and occupational aspiration of young Nigerians. A close examination among participants who took part in one-on-one, semi-structured interview conducted through zoom. Questions probed participants’ hopes, dreams and perceived obstacles regarding school activities and work. Thematic content analysis was performed using both deductive and inductive approaches from the schools selected. Three major themes emerged which included: the benefits and drawbacks of working and learning from home, financial changes and concern, and hope, optimism despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. Working and learning from home were discussed among participants. A consensus was reached that working and learning from home had many benefits, but some expressed their concern about the quality of online education. The Covid-19 pandemic also caused financial hardship as many people were laid off from their jobs, therefore forcing their children to delay in educational plans. However, majority of the participants expressed positivity and hope for the future inspite of the threat of death by Covid-19. THE DECEIT OF FOREIGN RELIGION OVER THE YORUBA RELIGION THROUGH THE LENS OF “AKÍNWÙMÍ ÌS̩Ò̩LÁ” SELECTED PLAYS

ABSTRACT
The primary objective of this paper is to revive the memory of the indigenous people of Africa, mostly Nigeria, on aspect of religion as becomes more relevant as the potential for losing the reality of the main stream of the historical account coming from European sources. The waning belief in the potency and efficacy of Yorùbá traditional practices is condemned and its superiority to the foreign religions is brought to the fore. To further prove the superiority of the Yorùbá traditional religion, the playwright posits that, for European religion to thrive, it has to rely on the traditional religion and those that profess to have taken to either of the foreign religions are actually hybrids because they openly profess the foreign religions but they are covert traditionalists. Therefore, the article reminds that African identity has been endangered by foreign religion; that there is a need to rethink our conceptualization as portrayed in Akinwumi Isola’s selected play. Finally, this paper examine the potency of power of òrìs̩à (gods) in oath taking over the foreign religions (Islam and Christian) as a means of curbing corruption which has seriously affected the African societies especially Nigeria.

RIGHT TO BASIC EDUCATION IN NIGERIA IN THE LIGHT OF NATIONAL LAWS AND POLICIES: EMPHASIS ON BAUCHI STATE

ABSTRACT
There is no fear of contradiction in stating that education is a fundamental tool for holistic development of man. Education from basic, secondary to tertiary level is a factor that needs not be relegated to the background in the scheme of legal and socio-economic development of a country. In Nigeria however, right to education is not considered as a front burner issue, and to that extent, there is no legal guarantee given to the right to basic education for the Nigerian child. Indeed, the Constitution, several laws and policies exist in Nigeria, but their provisions do not translate to legal guarantee for right to basic education for the child. The implication of this is that little or nothing in finances may be committed to development of education and one cannot have grounds in law to enforce the right to enjoyment of basic education. Moreso, since the right is rendered justiciable within the framework of the Constitution. There is no gain saying therefore that huge illiteracy exists in Nigeria even at the level of people yearning for basic education. In the absence of legal guarantee translating into enjoyment of right to basic education, a huge number of children are illiterates, uneducated and undeveloped in minds, and exist with hundred percent proneness to commission of social vices in forms of banditry, kidnapping, stealing and raping, including murderous crimes. This paper therefore looks at right to basic education under the extant laws and policies in Nigeria, using qualitative research methodology and doctrinal approach to explain its sub-topics. Based on the methodology adopted, the paper uses data from legal texts, journals and internet space to buttress its view points and make recommendations geared toward the development, enforcement and enjoyment of right to basic education in Nigeria.
